40. “THE BALKANS AND MACEDONIA”

The publication “The Balkans and Macedonia”. (2014) by the late academician Antonije Škikljev – Dončo from Belgrade was published for the first time in Serbian under the title “The Balkans and Macedonia”. Then the same work by Antonije Škikljev – Dončo and Slave Nikolovski – Katin was translated into Macedonian and published by the publishing house “Makedonska Iskra”, Skopje, 2019, on 308 pages, translated by Risto Stefov from Toronto. These publications are part of the truth about the Balkans and Macedonia.
Let me emphasize that the book publishing house “Makedonska Iskra” was formed thanks to the democratic processes that occurred after the independence of the Republic of Macedonia. It is named after the newspaper “Makedonska Iskra”, the first Macedonian newspaper that began to be printed in Perth, Australia in 1946. It was first registered in the District Commercial Court in Skopje on 28.03.1995, and then followed all legal changes. However, its publishing activity “Macedonian Spark” began in 1997.
According to Shkokljev, world science has been dealing with the enigma of the “Greek historical miracle” for centuries and has not found adequate explanations for the origin of that phenomenon. On this issue, there are opposing views on the past, because the one who controls the past, ruthlessly strives to dictate the future. Since in Europe today we do not live in totalitarian times, an attempt will be made to explain that famous “Hellenic miracle” based on arguments from modern sciences, primarily linguistics and archaeology, with an epistemological approach.
Spatially, the term Greece usually refers to the territory from Olympus in the north to Tenara and Crete in the south. While, on the other hand, the ethnogenesis of the ancient Greeks is based on the composition of the participants in the Trojan War: Danaans, Achaeans and Argives mentioned by Homer in the “Iliad”, the Hellenists designate them as a single “Greek people” or “Hellenic people” and here they are wrong – because the Hellenes colonized the Peloponnese 80 years after the Trojan War.
A further enigma is the gods of Olympus. Herodotus points out that the poets Homer and Hesiod were the first to create stories among the Hellenes about the origin of the gods and the world, gave them names and explained the divine honors and skills and determined the areas in which they ruled. The stories were a gift from the Muses of Piraeus in Macedonia, the “eloquent daughters” of Mnemosyne (Memory). In addition to faith, the language of the ancient Greeks is also an enigma, as well as the origin of the alphabet and myth.
Otherwise, Academician Dr. Antonije Škokljev-Dončo, retired general, was born in the village of D’mbeni, Kostur in Aegean Macedonia now Greece. Dr. Škokljev received his education in Kostur, Sofia and Belgrade. In World War II, he participated in the liberation of Macedonia and Yugoslavia.
Dr. Škokljev graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade with a high average in the field of maxillofacial and oral surgery, and worked in Belgrade and other medical centers in Europe. He was a doctor of medical sciences and an (expert) member of the World Health Organization.
Academician Prof. Dr. Antonije Škokljev-Dončo, as a great world figure, lived a long but modest life, and at the age of 94, he died on May 1, 2018 in Belgrade, where his eternal home is located. However, his name and work will remain unforgettable in ethnic Macedonia and in Serbia
