Three new cases of West Nile fever

Date:

Three new cases of West Nile fever have been confirmed, bringing the total number to 34, the Public Health Center Skopje said in a statement to MRT . The virus was also detected for the first time this season in a resident of Aracinovo, Skopje. Most cases were recorded in Kisela Voda and Aerodrom, and almost half are from Drachevo.

"We have a new case today in Aracinovo, the first time a case has been detected from there today. There are canals, pools, stagnant water and maybe that is the reason. There are conditions for mosquitoes to breed," said epidemiologist Ljulzime Bajrami from the Center for Public Health - Skopje in a statement to MRT.

Bajrami believes that disinfestation should begin earlier this year, but also that an analysis should be done - whether mosquitoes are perhaps resistant to such agents, so that they can be changed if necessary.

Two deaths from West Nile fever have been registered in the country so far. The patients were 72 and 83 years old, and in addition to the viral infection, they had multiple chronic diseases.

The Public Health Center - Skopje on August 12 declared an epidemic of West Nile fever in several Skopje municipalities - Kisela Voda, Gazi Baba, Aerodrom, Butel and Ilinden, as well as in the settlements of Drachevo, Pržino, Dolno Lisiche, Kadino and Jurumleri.
