The Macedonian film "Housekeeping for Beginners", directed by Goran Stolevski, is this year's Macedonian candidate for the "Oscar" award for the best feature-length international film.
The decision was made today by the selection committee at the Society of Filmmakers of Macedonia, accepted and approved by the American Academy of Motion Pictures, Art and Science, consisting of: Igor Ivanov - director and chairman of the committee, Kastriot Avdili - producer and director, Ana Stojanovska – actress, Marina Koloska – camera operator, Lidija Mojsovska – director, Emilia Ivanovska-Atanasovska – costume designer, Ebru Musli – actress and Rade Vasilev – costume designer. The films "M" directed by Vardan Tozia and "Overexposed" directed by Eleonora Veninova were also in competition for the candidacy.
"Housekeeping for Beginners", directed and written by Goran Stolevski, and produced by "List Production" - Skopje recently had its world premiere at the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, where it received the 17th Queer Lion Award in a competition of 16 films, including Luc Besson's Dog Man and Bradley Cooper's Maestro. The film is financially supported by the RSM Film Agency, and the producer is Marija Dimitrova from "List Production" - Skopje. Starring: Anamaria Marinka (known for the film "4 months 3 weeks 2 days" (2007) by Christian Mungiu) and Alina Serban from Romania, Vladimir Tintor from Croatia, Samson Selim, Mia Mustafa and Jada Selim from Macedonia.
According to the Statute of the Society of Filmmakers of Macedonia, the members of the committee for the selection of the Macedonian candidate for the "Oscar" award for the best international feature film are chosen by the president of the society, Igor Ivanov, and the selection of members is approved by the American Academy of Motion Pictures. art and science (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – AMPAS).
The Association of Film Workers of Macedonia has been in charge of selecting a Macedonian candidate for the "Oscar" award for the best feature-length international film since the independence of the Republic of Macedonia, when it was recognized by the American Academy of Motion Pictures (AMPAS) as the only relevant institution for communication, selection and candidacy of a Macedonian representative for the award.
The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
