The Macedonian Cadet Men's National Team opened the European Championship B Division, which is being held in Skopje and Gevgelija, in the best possible way. Our hopefuls are playing their matches at the "26 April" gym in Gevgelija, and at the start they recorded a convincing victory over Cyprus by 63-82.
Dion Shabani, with a double-double effect of 37 points and 10 rebounds, was the leading scorer and leader in our ranks, followed by Aleksandar Zunzurovski with 23 points.
A strong start from our guys, they opened with 5-22, this was the highest advantage for Macedonia in the first quarter which ended with 19-28. The dominance continued in the next ten minutes, Macedonia took the lead with 23-44, while at halftime the score was 33-45.
The convincing advantage was the reason for the coach to make changes, more precisely to rotate all the basketball players, a moment that the opponent managed to take advantage of, reducing it to 41-46. Macedonia had an answer for this game, with a series of 12-2 it again led by double digits 47-62 in the 28th minute. At the start of the last ten minutes our guys entered with a convincing 68-47, a positive that was enough for a calm finish and the desired first triumph at the start of this championship.
Macedonia plays its next match tomorrow, against the Icelandic national team. The match will be played at the "26 April" stadium in Gevgelija, starting at 18:30 PM.
