At least 13 people were injured in a serious accident at a motor race in eastern Australia, in the state of New South Wales. The accident occurred when a car lost control, went off the track and crashed through a guardrail, crashing into a spectator area. Two people are in a critical condition, police said.
According to initial reports, the driver (27) crashed into the roadway just before he broke his seatbelt, causing chaos. The injured ranged in age from 20 to 75, including a 54-year-old man who suffered the most serious injuries.
Police say they are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident. They are also considering improving safety measures at racetracks, as such events remind the public and organizers of the risks associated with minor motorsports.
