The US military has launched strikes on Iran for a sixth consecutive night, with state media reporting that civilian infrastructure was also hit. US Central Command said the aim of the strikes was to further degrade Iran's military capabilities.
Iranian media reported that bridges, a train station and an airport were also attacked overnight. Donald Trump recently threatened that the US would bomb Iranian bridges and power plants if Iran did not return to talks soon.
Seven people were killed in the latest attacks, the state news agency IRNA reported, and at least 38 since fighting resumed with the United States.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said it had retaliated with strikes on a radar station in Oman and targets in Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as a surprise attack on a site in eastern Syria near the Jordanian border, in response to the killing of two Iranian soldiers two days ago. This is the first known Iranian attack on Syria since the start of the war.
As US and Iranian attacks escalate, the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, affecting oil and gas exports from the Middle East.
"We should be concerned. I am concerned too, if the situation does not improve in the next few weeks," said the director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol.
