The political party Levica announced in a statement that it is not giving up on its request to introduce a single electoral unit and accused VMRO-DPMNE of being responsible for the failure to adopt the new Electoral Code within the deadline set within the framework of the reform agenda related to the European Union.
The party claims that the government was not a passive observer of the process, but its organizer and holder of the parliamentary majority. According to Levica, instead of contributing to reaching a consensus, DPMNE introduced conditions in the final phase that, as they say, were not part of the work of the Working Group, and thus hindered the adoption of the Electoral Code.
The statement stated that DPMNE was not interested in electoral reforms that would lead to greater democratization of the electoral system, but rather in maintaining the existing model. Levica argues that a single electoral district and more equal electoral conditions would mean greater political competition.
The party further assesses that the reform agenda was not left unfulfilled because of Levica, but because, as they state, of DPMNE's decisions to put party interests before the public interest.
The Left announces that in the coming period it will use all political, institutional and democratic mechanisms to reopen the issue of introducing a single electoral district.
