The Los Angeles County District Court on Monday, June 1, issued an order prohibiting him from coming within 90 meters, or 100 yards, of her home in the Hollywood Hills, where she lives with her sister and partner, Far Out magazine reported.
Harassment and attempted theft
The civil harassment restraining order was filed on May 29. It alleges that Applegate had been stalking the singer since April 20, and the situation escalated on May 23, when he came to her front door and allegedly tried to force it open. In her statement, Carpenter described the incident as a "deeply disturbing" attempt to approach her.
He claimed that the singer was expecting him.
When security tried to remove him from the property, Applegate refused and made "outrageous and completely false" claims that the singer was expecting him. Police soon arrived and arrested him. Despite this, he returned to the same address two days later.
Singer's statement
“Due to his constant stalking, trespassing and surveillance, I am suffering from severe and prolonged emotional distress,” Carpenter, 27, wrote in a signed statement. “I fear what he might do if this court does not stop him.”
She added that his behavior indicated a dangerous obsession. "His insane insistence that he knew me and that I expected him demonstrates a dangerous, unrealistic and irrational fixation on me," she said, describing the attempt to enter her home as "one of the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced."
Police: Behavior poses increased risk
Los Angeles Police Detective Peter Dumanis agreed with that assessment, stating that “Applegate’s conduct is consistent with a well-known pattern of stalking that poses a serious and heightened risk to the victim’s safety.” A court hearing in the case is scheduled for June 17.
A break after a busy year
The singer is currently taking a break from touring after an extremely busy 2025, which saw her perform at a number of major festivals, including Primavera Sound in Barcelona and BST Hyde Park. She recently collaborated with Madonna on "Bring Your Love," which they performed during Sabrina's Coachella set in April.
