The European Union Ambassador to the country, Michalis Rokas, announced that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, could visit the region in the coming weeks. He expects the visit to provide an additional boost to European integration and contribute to the opening of accession negotiations with the EU.
Rokas, who attended an event at the Tabanovce border crossing today, said that significant efforts have been made in the past period to create conditions for such a step.
"In the past few months, we have all been working hard to make this happen. I hope that we will soon have a regional visit from the President of the European Commission. It should take place in the next two to three weeks and I really hope that it will be a decisive step towards starting accession negotiations with the European Union," said Rokas.
Regarding the possibility of the constitutional amendments being adopted with delayed effect, as a solution to unblock the country's European path, the EU ambassador did not want to comment on specific information.
He indicated that he could not share details regarding such allegations at this time, leaving open the question of whether there are any concrete proposals or talks to overcome the political deadlock.
Von der Leyen's visit, if it takes place, would come at a time when European integration is once again the focus of political discussions in the country, especially regarding meeting the conditions necessary for progress in the accession process.
