The legendary British rock musician and co-founder of the Pink Floyd group Roger Waters addressed yesterday via video link the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York, where he called for immediate peace in Ukraine.
"The invasion of the Russian Federation is illegal and I strongly condemn it. Also, they had a reason for that action, so I strongly condemn the provocateurs who led to it," Waters said.
Commenting on the continued arming of Kiev by the West, the musician pointed out that there are billions of people in the world whose voices are not being heard and who are "not profiting from endless war" and who are calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Waters recalled that "eat and stay warm" has become a popular slogan in Britain, because a significant number of people cannot afford both, due to the energy and economic crisis that occurred after Western sanctions against Moscow.
"President (of the United States Joe) Biden, President (of Russia Vladimir) Putin, President (of Ukraine Volodymyr) Zelensky, please change your position immediately. Bring an end to the war in Ukraine today. It's just the first step, but everything comes from it," Waters said.
Roger Waters is known for his opposition to the Western supply of arms to Kiev because of Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine.
He repeatedly assessed that Ukraine is ruled by radical nationalists who brought the country to the brink of disaster.
