The quotas for first-year student enrollment at all universities in the country have been reduced by around 2,000 places, especially for professions that experience higher unemployment due to the saturation of the labor market.
Mainly, says Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska in an interview with MIA, the enrollment quotas for the professions of business administration, public administration, as well as some of the study programs at the faculties of economics, law and medicine have been reduced. In these professions, she says, a larger number of unemployed people are appearing.
"In contrast, technical professions, IT, mechanical engineering, construction, have remained almost identical, and employability there is at an excellent level, reaching somewhere around 98-99 percent," says Janevska in an interview with MIA.
The Minister is confident that all students will find the place they want to study.
Starting this academic year, says Janevska, the reconstructed student dormitories "Stiv Naumov" and "Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu" in Skopje will open their doors to students. Accommodation in "Stiv Naumov" will be from October 1, and in "Kuzman" at the beginning of November. This will be followed by the second and third phases of the phased reconstruction of student dormitories across the country. For all renovated dormitories, accommodation will be at a new price. Now this will only apply to "Stiv Naumov", where the amount from the current 3,500 denars has been increased to almost 6,000 denars.
"We also had comments from the State Audit Office about the low participation, which requested that the issue of participation by both students and the state be reconsidered. This problem has not been solved for 20 years. Why four ministers before me in the last seven years have not taken action to solve the problem, I would not know how to say, but the current model is not good and is unsustainable," says Janevska.
