Hawthorn continued their good form with a convincing win over St Kilda in Round 12 of the AFL, defeating the Saints 89-43 at Marvel Stadium.

St Kilda had a disastrous first half - failing to score a single goal, something the club had not done in almost four decades. It was also their weakest first half since 1957.

Jack Gunston was the Hawthorn hero with five goals on his return from injury, while Will Day also made a successful return and recorded 18 possessions. For St Kilda, Jack Silvagni kicked three goals in an improved second half, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

The match was also marked by a controversial refereeing decision when Nick Watson's goal was disallowed after the whistle for allegedly going off the line. Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell announced that the club would seek an explanation from the AFL.
