A police dashcam video has been released showing the moments Britney Spears was arrested for drunk driving in March. The footage reveals her first question to officers as they handcuffed her, world media reports.
California traffic police stopped the singer after she was spotted crossing between lanes on the 101 Freeway.
It took her 15 seconds to respond to police signals to stop. When she finally stopped and rolled down her window, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
Spears then argued with the officers for about ten minutes before agreeing to get out of the car. She told them she "didn't like" being ordered out, citing concerns about traffic. When the officers offered to take her to a safer place, she refused and made a counteroffer.
"I'll cook you something, lasagna, whatever you want. I have a pool," she told them, insisting that she was "perfectly fine" and could drive.
When she got out of the car, she appeared visibly unsteady on her feet, and officers reported that she spoke “rapidly and slurredly.” They also noted that during the encounter, she exhibited “dramatic mood swings” and that she sometimes spoke with a British accent.
As she was being handcuffed, the camera captured her asking the officers, "Wait, did you take my phone?" The officer assured her that it was still in her purse.
Spears told officers that she had had a cocktail about six hours earlier and that she didn't feel drunk at all. She then allegedly told one of the officers, "I could probably drink four bottles of wine and still watch over you. I'm an angel."
She also revealed that she had been taking Lamictal, a medication used to treat bipolar disorder. A search of the car also found a bottle of Adderall, an amphetamine-type drug commonly prescribed for ADHD and narcolepsy, which was not prescribed to her, as well as a glass of wine in the front seat cup holder.
Two breathalyzer tests conducted about an hour after the stop showed blood alcohol concentrations of 0,06 and 0,05, both below the legal limit of 0,08 in California. The singer also underwent a blood sample for drug testing, the results of which were not included in the report. Spears was released the morning after her arrest.
This isn't the first time the singer has made headlines for her driving problems. In October of last year, a video allegedly showing her driving recklessly in front of a restaurant went viral.
