Trekhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez triumphed at the British Grand Prix, the 12th race of the MotoGP season.
The Spaniard recorded his second victory in the premier class at Silverstone, his first since October, when he won his debut at Phillip Island. Thus, for the 12th time in his career, Fernandez found himself on the top step of the podium, and also became the 12th different winner of the British Grand Prix in the last 12 editions.
At the finish line, Fernandez had a two and a half second lead over Jorge Martin on Aprilia, while Marco Beceki was on the third step of the podium, after a heroic race.
The Italian thus completed a triple triumph for Aprilia, four weeks after breaking his collarbone on the Sachsenring track.
The fight for victory at the British Grand Prix was virtually non-existent, as Fernandes immediately took the lead.
Martin lost first position at the start due to a problem with the device that raises and lowers the motorcycle at the start, but quickly managed to find the right rhythm. For a long time, Beceki was closest to Fernandez, but without a chance to threaten him, so Martin overtook the Italian halfway through the race and thus secured second place.
Alex Marquez of Gresini finished fourth, followed by KTM's Pedro Acosta, WR46's Fabio di Gianantonio, who was three seconds ahead of Marc Marquez, who had struggled all weekend. Brad Binder, Luca Marini and Diogo Moreira completed the top 10 at Silverstone.
Martin now leads the overall standings with 240 points, 31 more than Beceki, while Ogura is third with 203.
The next race in the MotoGP championship is the Aragon Grand Prix from August 28 to 30.
