A thirty-nine-year-old resident of the Kumanovo village of Cherkezi is suspected of insulting and threatening the Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, through messages on social networks. A public prosecutor from the Kumanovo Basic Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated proceedings against him for the criminal offense of "Endangering Security" under Article 144, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code.
"The suspect, in messages via social networks, insulted and threatened the President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia," said the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kumanovo.
The prosecution assessed that there are circumstances that require a detention order. The reasons cited are the risk of escape, the manner of committing the crime, and the fact that the suspect has previously been implicated in other violent crimes.
"Taking into account the circumstances of the commission of the crime, the risk of escape, and especially the fact that the suspect appears to be the perpetrator of other crimes in the field of violent crime - violence, usury and a large number of misdemeanors for disturbing public order and peace, the public prosecutor submitted a proposal to the judge of the preliminary procedure for determining a detention measure," said the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kumanovo.
They add that the decision-making process also took into account data on the suspect's previous behavior, who they say is a conflicted person prone to arguments, threats, and physical confrontations.
"According to the evidence provided regarding the suspect's previous behavior, this is a conflicted person who engages in constant arguments, threats, and physical confrontations with complainants, so it is assessed that there is a real risk that such aggressive outbursts could escalate into more serious crimes with life-threatening consequences that he threatens," said the Kumanovo Public Prosecutor's Office.
The criminal offense "Endangering Security" under Article 144, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code provides for a prison sentence of one to five years when the threat is made publicly or through an information system and refers to the commission of a criminal offense for which a prison sentence of five years or a more severe punishment is prescribed, under the conditions provided for in this paragraph.
