200.000 euros, a record amount of money found by the Service Dog Unit of the Ministry of the Interior

Throughout its multi-decade operation, the Service Dog Unit of the Ministry of the Interior has found a huge amount of weapons and ammunition and narcotic drugs, but it has also been successful in successfully finding money in cash that was illegally transferred.

In the report on the work of the Unit, as informed by our interlocutors, in 2019 at the Tabanovce border crossing, a dog from the Unit managed to find 200.000 euros in cash hidden in a special bunker in the front of a passenger car, which is a kind of record in recent years .

The training of a dog starts after the first 30 days from birth, that is, from their sighting, and what a dog will be profiled to look for is a process that lasts from the third month to its first year.

In the Unit there are dogs that are specialized in finding drugs, weapons and ammunition, explosives and money, and therefore also perpetrators of crimes.

Those dogs that are more temperamental are in charge of weapons and ammunition, narcotics and money, while the task of finding explosives is entrusted to less temperamental breeds, i.e. most of the time Labradors, but also Belgian Shepherds, which have a calmer temperament.
