The big derby of the first round of the Champions League at the Etihad deservedly went to the Citizens: Manchester City defeated Napoli 2-0.
The spotlight was on the former captain of the "Citizens", Kevin De Bruyne, with whom fate played a trick. He made his debut for Napoli in the Champions League against "his" City, but was substituted in the 25th minute.
Antonio Conte simply had to sacrifice someone when Di Lorenzo received a straight red card and decided to make it the former City captain.
From that moment on, City attacked with all their might, but Vanja Milinković Savić was excellent in goal for the visitors. He kept his goal brilliantly, making six saves in the first half.
However, in the second half of the match, he and Napoli could not hold out with one player less.
First, Erling Haaland confirmed his excellent form and put City in the lead, and the final result was set by Doka with his first goal of the season.
On the other side of England, in Newcastle, the hosts and Barcelona played an average match. The Catalans celebrated with goals from former Manchester United player Marcus Rashford.
The first half brought only one chance, before Barcelona's goal, but Barnes failed to beat Garcia.
In the second half, Rashford scored the first goal with a header in the 56th minute, and nine minutes later he broke Poop's net. By the end of the 90th minute, Gordon only managed to reduce the score.
Eintracht Frankfurt outclassed Galatasaray. The Turkish champion, who invested a lot in the team this season, lost 5:1. Akgun gave Galatasaray the lead after just eight minutes of play and that result stood on the scoreboard until the 37th minute, when Doan equalized. By the end of the first half, Eitracht's players scored two goals in the second and fourth minutes of stoppage time, through Uzun and Burkart. The latter increased the lead with another goal in the 66th minute, and Knauf put an end to the match in the 75th minute.
Sporting's players were also convincing at home against debutant Kairat (4:1).
The match started badly for Sporting, Hjumland missed a penalty. Trincao scored for 1:0 in the penultimate minute of the first half. The second half started with two great chances for Kairat. The guests did not convert, which was followed by a harsh penalty, three goals in three minutes. Trincao scored a goal in the 65th minute, Alisson two minutes later, and in the 68th minute Kenda also scored. The first goal in Kairat's history in the Champions League was scored by Edmilson in the 86th minute.
