After 11 years as a starting driver in F1, the Australian driver of Italian origin has decided to retire and this coming season will be a reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing team.

The McLaren driver, 33-year-old Daniel Ricciardo, will not be seen on the tracks in the new 2023 season. He decided to retire from active driving and become a test, that is, reserve driver in the Red Bull camp.

"I will watch the start of the season on TV, which will bring back some memories. Then I'll be in Melbourne for my first race since I'm not among the drivers. I will feel the atmosphere, the noise, the sounds, the smell, all over again... It will tell me a lot about my future. I'll find out if I want to come back, or if I want to be a fan, we'll see. "Melbourne will definitely tell me a lot about my future," Ricardo told reporters in New York.

He himself recently admitted he chose not to compete in 2023 after two torturous seasons at McLaren in which he was overshadowed by the much younger Lando Norris. In the composition of the British team, Ricardo will be replaced by his compatriot Oscar Piastri, who will debut in F1 this season. Piastre was a test driver for Alpin last season.
