A recipe for marshmallow tea that helps with sore throats

Date:

The season of viral and bacterial infections brings with it many unpleasant side effects such as a sore throat. There are many home methods for regulating this health problem, and among them is the special marshmallow tea.

The white or tame marshmallow is a perennial plant from the marshmallow family that can grow up to 150 centimeters in height. Its Latin name Althanea officinalis refers to its medicinal properties. It belongs to the genus Althanea whose name comes from the word athainein, which means healing, and althos, which means healing properties.

The most medicinal part of this plant is the root from which tea is made. This drink has been used for centuries as a soothing agent for sore throats and helps with bronchitis and many lung diseases. To regulate a sore throat, pour 2 tablespoons of dried marshmallow root with 2,5 deciliters of fresh water and let it sit for one to two hours. Then heat the tea and add a little honey if desired.

According to Healthline, marshmallow root provides short-term relief from symptoms associated with respiratory problems. The root of this plant helps to build a protective film that envelops the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat and thus relieves irritation. Marshmallow tea can reduce the symptoms of a dry and irritating cough and lead to the release of mucus build-up in the nose, throat and lungs so it can be coughed up more easily.
