The men's handball team defeated Romania 24:23 with a last-second goal at the end of the group stage of the European Championship in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, finishing with three points. This will give them an easier path to the next World Championship, and the small chances of continuing their performances at this European Championship depended on the result of the Denmark-Portugal match.
Macedonia started the match well and after ten minutes of play had a 4:0 lead. After the Romanians scored their first goal in the 11th minute, the match entered a more stable phase, in which Macedonia had a constant advantage, at one point by five goals.
The picture on the field did not change much in the second half. The Romanians were constantly in a position to chase down Macedonia's advantage and in the 56th minute managed to equalize for the first time in the match.
After going goalless for more than six minutes, Macedonia had a player more in the final two minutes of the match and took the lead again with about 50 seconds left. Romania equalized with a goal with seven seconds left, but there was enough time for a quick counterattack, from which Kosteski scored.
