UMD condemns the vandalism of the Macedonian Orthodox monastery St. Athanasius in Tetovo

Date:

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) strongly condemns the recent vandalism of the Macedonian Orthodox Monastery of Saint Athanasius in Tetovo, Macedonia.

"In a deplorable act of disrespect and intolerance, the target was the monastery, a holy place for the Macedonian Orthodox community, at a time when believers solemnly fast for the Orthodox Easter fast and Ramadan. This malicious act not only violates the sanctity of a religious institution but also undermines the principles of multiculturalism and religious tolerance that are essential for a cohesive society.

UMD stands in solidarity with the Macedonian Orthodox community and all affected by this reprehensible act. It calls on the authorities to quickly investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. Furthermore, it calls for strengthened measures to protect religious buildings and to support the fundamental rights of all individuals to practice their faith without fear of persecution or discrimination.

"The acts of vandalism against religious institutions are not only attacks on physical structures, but also on the values of peace, tolerance and coexistence," said Metodija A. Koloski, co-founder of UMD and honorary president.

"Now more than ever, it is imperative that communities come together in solidarity and reject all forms of hatred and bigotry.

UMD confirms its commitment to promoting religious freedom, cultural diversity and mutual respect in Macedonia and beyond. We call on all stakeholders, including government authorities, civil society organizations and religious leaders, to join together in fostering a society where individuals of all faiths and backgrounds can live and thrive in harmony.

The United Macedonian Diaspora is a leading international non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the interests and needs of Macedonians and Macedonian communities worldwide.
