The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) condemns the divisive statements of the DUI leader and long-time member of the government coalition, Ali Ahmeti.
UMD believes that his statement during the meeting with a delegation from Ukraine that they should endure and will win this war. "Be strong and never give up, that's how we won, because we never gave up," said Ahmeti.
"With this statement, Ahmeti consciously wants to humiliate his fellow Macedonians, presenting them as the losers of the conflict in 2001, and himself as the winner.
Such statements are not appropriate for politicians who strive for inter-ethnic peace. If DUI and Ahmeti want to live in 'one society for all', they should distance themselves from statements that are offensive to the majority Macedonian people.
We call on Ahmeti to apologize for this statement. We also call on the Government and the relevant authorities to create a framework and standards of expression, especially when it concerns the representation of Macedonia in front of important international organizations or countries", says the reaction of the UMD.
