Kyrgios: I almost cried, doctors told me I would never play

Date:

Nick Kyrgios finally returned to winning ways, triumphing in the first round of the Miami Masters against Mackenzie McDonald. After a long break and difficult moments, the Australian tennis player did not hide his emotions after the victory.

Kyrgios last triumphed in October 2022, and this victory had special meaning for him.

"I'm not going to lie, I was close to crying on the pitch. Just thinking about the last two years, it was brutal, I have to be honest. I couldn't move my ankle and the doctors told me I would never play again. I heard a lot of voices outside, will I ever be at this level and win again. Playing is one thing, winning games is another."

The situation he found himself in was extremely difficult.

"I used to actually win a lot, so this seems normal to me, but I don't think I've fully realized yet that I'm in a situation where I couldn't even hit a soft tennis ball, and now I'm beating a serious player," Kyrgios said.
