Kate Winslet revealed during an interview with Vanity Fair that filming one of the most romantic scenes in the movie "Titanic" wasn't nearly as romantic in reality.
It is about the scene in which Rose (Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) stand together on the bow of the Titanic and watch the sunset on the horizon. The young lovers intertwine their hands and kiss for the first time.
Although for many lovers of romantic dramas this is one of the most beautiful moments in the history of the film, Winslet said that DiCaprio could not be serious during the filming of the scene, and in addition they encountered some other obstacles.
“Filming that scene was a nightmare because Leo couldn't stop laughing, so we had to retake the scene four times. "Jim wanted very specific lighting for this scene, and the sunsets were constantly changing where we were," Winslet explained, reports Unilad.
An additional obstacle was the fact that makeup artists could not reach Winslet and DiCaprio to fix their makeup and hair during the filming of the scene.
"It was a part of the ship that wasn't part of the whole film set we were on, just a small cut off part. We had to climb a ladder to get to it. "I remember the makeup and hair crew couldn't get to us," she added.
Since both Winslet and DiCaprio had to wear makeup, the actress took on the role of makeup artist and always had makeup kits in her costume to fix their makeup during breaks from filming.
Furthermore, during the filming of the scene, she hit her knee on the railing and she and DiCaprio started laughing and ruined the make-up. DiCaprio had to wear foundation and self-tanning spray to look tanned, and some of his make-up was smeared on his co-star's face after the kiss.
"It was such a mess, it wasn't what it seemed at all," Winslet said.
But despite everything, the Titanic star said she was very proud of that scene and the entire film in general, because Titanic is "a movie that just keeps on giving." For her, it is amazing how new generations are discovering that film for the first time.
