With the support of the Left MPs, as well as MP Ilir Demiri from the Sela wing and Bejcan Ilyas from the Democratic Party of Turks, the government reached the required two-thirds majority to pass the Law on Misdemeanors, better known as the Safe City.
The first to speak procedurally was MP and coordinator of the Left, Borislav Krmov, who pointed out that although the law is not ideal and will be continuously improved, they will still support it for the sake of safety and saving human lives.
SDSM also spoke out against it, defining the law as a law on penalties that calls into question the security of personal data.
The Albanian opposition bloc, with the exception of MP and doctor Ilir Demiri from the Sela wing, all others voted against it. Although DUI recently announced that they would support the legal solution if their suggestions regarding the Albanian language and several other remarks were accepted, this did not happen.
The parties from the Albanian opposition bloc recognize discrimination in the legal solution because the law will for now only apply to the territory of Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo.
The Law on Misdemeanors, or Safe City, comes into force on February 1. The Ministry of Interior announced that the testing period for the system will end on January 31, and its implementation will officially begin at the beginning of next month.
