New rules for traveling to the EU are coming soon. They will come into effect on October 12, 2025, and the Ministry of Interior announces that citizens will be informed in a timely manner.
Passengers will fill out online applications, valid for two years, and the goal is to avoid delays at road crossings.
The Director of the Public Security Bureau, Aleksandar Janev, pointed out that the Ministry of Interior is in constant communication with European partners and talks are held on a daily basis in order to make it easier and more accessible for Macedonian citizens.
"The biggest problem may be the road crossings with our neighbors who are part of the EU. Therefore, it is our obligation to fully inform citizens about what applications they need to submit. The application will be online, will take a short time and will be valid for two years. When we receive the official information from the EU, it will be shared with citizens. The regulation is from the EU and we are obliged to respect it," said Janev.
According to the latest information, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will start to apply on 12 October 2025. Gradually, over a period of six months, the system will be implemented by 29 European countries – the 25 EU member states part of the Schengen area, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The full application of the system will start from 10 April 2026, when the days of stay will be calculated electronically.
