The Bosniak Democratic Union (BDS) today filed criminal charges with the competent institutions against the director of the Agency for the Realization of Community Rights, Dalibor Kitanović, due to his public actions, which the party claims constitute glorification and exaltation of Ratko Mladić, who was legally convicted of war crimes.
The BDS says that a public office holder must not, through his actions and public messages, relativize war crimes or violate the dignity of their victims.
They particularly emphasize Kitanović's responsibility as the director of an institution whose task is to realize and protect the rights of smaller ethnic communities in Macedonia.
"From such an institution and its leadership, we expect respect for all communities, their dignity, as well as sensitivity towards victims of war crimes," the BDS stated.
The party expects the competent institutions to review the criminal charges in accordance with the law, to determine all relevant facts and, if responsibility is established, to take appropriate measures.
BDS announces that it will continue to act institutionally and will use all legal mechanisms to, as they say, protect the dignity of victims, the truth and the principles of accountability.
"War crimes must not be the subject of glorification. Victims deserve respect. Institutions must be an example of responsibility and respect for all communities," the BDS said.
